The Theme Customizer is how you restyle a jekcms site without opening a single file. It lives in the admin panel, it is schema-driven — the active theme declares which options it exposes, and the customizer renders a matching form — and everything you change is stored as settings in the database, not as edits to theme files.
Schema-Driven by Design
Every theme ships a customizer schema describing its adjustable options, organized into tabs and sections. A color option renders as a color picker, a font option as a dropdown with a live type specimen, a boolean as a toggle, an image option with an inline preview, and free-form options as text or code areas. Themes that do not declare their own schema fall back to a universal default schema, so the customizer works with every theme out of the box.
What You Can Change
- Colors — brand, surface, and accent colors with proper pickers
- Typography — font choices previewed in the actual typeface before you commit
- Layout and theme options — whatever the theme exposes: header variants, archive layouts, footer behaviour
- Images — logos and other theme imagery, with inline previews
- Custom code areas — for the cases where you really do want a few lines of your own CSS
Changes apply as soon as you save. Because your choices are stored as settings rather than file edits, theme updates do not overwrite them.
Export, Import, Reset
Your entire customization exports as a single JSON file. Import it on another jekcms installation running the same theme and the look carries over — useful for staging-to-production moves or for reusing a house style. A one-click reset returns the theme to its declared defaults at any time.
