The shortcuts that save the most time in the panel: Ctrl+K search, find and replace in the editor, undo in the theme customiser and bulk selection in the media library.
Which Shortcuts the Panel Has
The jekcms admin panel has a handful of keyboard shortcuts, but they were never written down in one place. This post lists them all and the screens they work on.
General Shortcuts
- Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on a Mac): opens the search window from anywhere in the panel.
- Ctrl+H: opens the find and replace bar in the post editor.
- Ctrl+S: saves your changes in the theme customiser.
- Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y: undoes or redoes the last change in the theme customiser. Inside a text field the browser's own undo takes over.
- Esc: closes the search window.
Ctrl+K Search
The search window shows two things at once. Panel pages come first, so typing "smtp", "logo" or "backup" takes you straight to that settings screen. Once you have typed two letters, it also searches posts, pages, media files, users and comments. If you cannot remember where a setting lives in the menu, this is the quickest way to find it.
Bulk Actions in the Posts List
In the posts list you can tick the boxes at the start of each row and use the bulk action menu to publish, unpublish, delete or change the category of all of them at once, instead of opening dozens of posts one by one.
Autosave
The post editor saves your draft to the server every two minutes and keeps the changes in between in your browser. If the browser closes or the power goes out, the editor offers to restore the unsaved text the next time you open it. Autosave only updates the draft; it never publishes anything on its own.
SEO Score
The SEO panel next to the editor checks the post for title length, meta description, keyword use, heading structure, image alt text and internal links, and shows a score out of 100. The score updates as you write, and each missing item is listed separately.
Media Library
You can drag several files in and upload them together. To select many at once, draw a rectangle over them with the mouse; hold Ctrl or Shift while drawing to add to the current selection. Uploaded images are converted to AVIF and WebP, and smaller copies at 400, 800 and 1600 pixels wide are created.
